Iran Travel Q&A

study at the Dehkhoda Institute in Tehran for about 5-6 months.

Question:

I've travelled to Iran before, but in January I’m going to study at the Dehkhoda Institute in Tehran for about 5-6 months. 1. I was wondering if anybody knew about good, cheap accommodation options for this period of time (I’m not sure whether the institute assists me with it on registration). 2. What the best thing to do would be regarding money. Is it still best to take enough, can I set up an account there, or is there a reasonably priced way to transfer money?

Answer:

Dehkhoda institute provides accommodation for you but for further information about the hotels in Tehran you can check Tehran hotels.

The currency in Iran, or the money used, is called Rial which is like dollar or pound in that is made up of 100 pieces. However, due to high inflation one riyal is worth so little that no fraction of it is really used on a day to day basis. The Toman is no longer an official currency. However it is used on a daily basis in Iran and it refers to the amount of ten Rials.

Due to the economic embargo, you cannot use credit cards or ATMs. As a tourist bring only cash to Iran because no kind of cards and cheques are acceptable. Dollar and Euro are both acceptable in Iran and can be exchanged to Rial in the banks, exchanges and airports.
