The most important highlights of Isfahan are:
1. Naghsh-i Jahan (World Portrait) Square, situated at the center of Isfahan city, is one of the largest city squares in the world. It is an important historical site and one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.
2. Imam Mosque is a mosque in Isfahan standing in south side of Naghsh-i Jahan Square. The mosque is also known as Shah Mosque, Royal Mosque and Abbasi Jame Mosque.
3. Ali Qapu (the Sublime Gate) is a grand palace in Isfahan, Iran. It is located on the western side of the Naghsh-i Jahan Square opposite to Sheikh lotf allah mosque, and had been originally designed as a vast portal.
4. Sheikh Lotfollah or Ladies' Mosque is one of the architectural masterpieces of Safavid Iranian architecture, standing in eastern part Naghsh-i Jahan Square.
5. Chehelsotoun, meaning forty columns in English, is a charming pavilion in the middle of a park at the far end of a long pool, in Isfahan built by Shah Abbas II to be used for the Shah's entertainment and receptions.
6. Si-o-Se means 33 in Farsi. The bridge is called so as it's comprised of 33 arches. It's also known as Allahverdi Khan Bridge after one of favorite generals of Shah Abbas I.
7. The finest of Isfahan's bridges, the Kahaju Bridge was built by Shah Abbas II in about 1650. However, the bridge is believed to have crossed the waters here for the time of Tamerlane.
8. Armenian cathedral which was built at the beginning of the 17th century in 1606 during Safavid period.
9. The Friday Mosque as it stands now is the result of continual construction, reconstruction, additions and renovations on the site from around 771 to the end of the twentieth century.
10. One of the largest and most labyrinthine bazaars of the country was mostly built during the early 16th century, although some of it dates back almost 1300 years.
11. Atashgah is an ancient Zoroastrian fire temple which is no longer in use and is located on top of a hill with Sassanid mud brick settlements.
12. Hasht Behesht which means 8 paradises in Farsi was built in the 1660s and once the most luxuriously decorated in Isfahan, the interior of the small Hasht Behesht Palace has been extensively damaged over the years.
