Question:
I've read many positive accounts on the experiences of solo female travellers in Iran and am excited at the prospect of visiting Shiraz, Persepolis, Yazd and Esfahan. My one concern is my passport. As a UK passport holder my visa application process was protracted to say the least - should I expect a lengthy delay at customs on arrival? How do locals react to female UK backpackers? Any insights much appreciated.
Answer:
There is no problem in travelling solo as a woman in Iran and no problems in making hotel reservations. Iran is one of the safest places you have ever visited as a woman traveling solo. The locals are very nice and courteous with you. At the moment the UK passport holders have to book a tour with an authorized Iranian travel agency like Uppersia so that they can visit Iran.
