Question:
We are couple (27 and 26 y.o.) that really like to travel. We've backpacked Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Uganda and some countries in Europe. Now I would really like to go to Iran because there are not many tourists and I think there are many great things to see. But my girlfriend is not so sure about it. She is worried about current state in Iran because of all that media. I can't convince her that politics and media is something different than real state and people. Is there anything to worry when backpacking Iran? What is general attitude toward women?
Answer:
Iran is the safest and also the easiest country to travel among the other ones you mentioned. What is depicted on your media is the exaggerated and over-generalized face of the country since showing everyday Iran life is not their job.
You must assure your girlfriend that the real face of Iran is not what is shown on the media where she will not meet hostile Iranians because of being a foreigner; the Iranians are very friendly and welcoming people. As a woman, as long as she follow the dress code, she will have a very pleasant journey in Iran, will talk to most of people without problems, have interesting conversation, and find people pretty kind in a way that you will get invitations from Iranians most of the time.
