Question:
I am a single senior male, and I am Canadian. Are Canadians viewed the same way as US citizens in Iran? I prefer to travel by myself, and would like to spend 3 weeks visiting the historic parts of Iran. Is it safe to do that on my own?
Answer:
Iranians are very hospitable and welcoming. You will be treated great regardless of being from Canada, Britain or the US and the government requiring Americans, Canadians and British doesn't mean there is a problem with your safety and you are all treated very well in Iran. Generally speaking backpacking in Iran is not difficult, even if you won't always find an English speaker. You will meet plenty of people willing to help you but the Americans, British and Canadian passport holders should reserve a tour with an Iranian travel agency before traveling to Iran but you may have a chance similar to the style of your travel.
