Question:
Arriving in a few weeks from warmer climate and will need to immediately get shopping to avoid dying of the cold (there are no suitable cold weather clothes on sale where I live). Any advice on a reasonably priced mall/ bazaar/area of Tehran to save me on the day I arrive? Will be staying in the centre, near Khomeini Square.
Answer:
The men's wear shops around the main entrance to the bazaar in Tehran are ideal for all kinds of men's clothes (Jackets, trousers, coats etc).
Dress attire for men is similar to that in Europe. The strict dress code for men in Iran prohibits short trousers and short sleeved shirts and t-shirts. Although you would not see Iranian men dressed in shorts, you will almost certainly see men wearing short sleeved shirts and t-shirts.
The female tourist in Iran has to cover their hair. They should also wear loose fitting garments which cover arms and legs up to at least the knee area, over pants and a scarf in the summer, and a full-length woolen coat and scarf in the winter (calf-length is acceptable if worn over pants).
Sandals and flip flops without socks are acceptable for both genders and makes no problem.
